A Heartwarming Holiday Rescue
On Boxing day morning we got a report of 10 recently dumped pet rabbits on the side of a very busy road. They were abandoned just down the street from the Surrey branch of the BC SPCA so it has been assumed that they were turned down at the shelter as they are at capacity, so instead, the owners callously dumped them a block away.
After receiving this report, we reached out to the Surrey Animal Resource Center (SARC) as they are also located very close to the report. As soon as they received our email, they immediately sent their Animal Services Officers out to look for them.
After some time searching the area, the officers found eight of the ten reported rabbits. Two had already been rescued by a kind Samaritan, who later brought the rabbits to SARC. Sadly, two of the rabbits didn’t make it. The bunnies were dumped in a precarious spot right between a busy road and a water-filled ditch. The rescued eight will be resting and recovering under the care of SARC.
You can donate to the care of these rabbits here.
A Second Chance Thanks to Your Reports
This is the power of reporting and advocating for abandoned pet rabbits. Thanks to this reporter, these rabbits are getting a second chance at a good life.
We read every report that comes in, and try to reach out to the appropriate local authorities to help remedy the situation.
