If They Bugs You, Educate Yourself… TTTThat’s All Folks!

Between the cartoons of Bugs Bunny and Peter Cottontail, there lie many misconceptions about the real personalities and actual needs of rabbits.

Rabbits are wonderful, social, and active animals who form strong and affectionate bonds with their human families.

And, yes, they do eat carrots. But they also eat hay, making them herbivores. In this regard, they are perfect companions for vegetarians and vegans (who prefer not to make another animal suffer for the needs of another). Their lifespan ranges from between 8 to 12 years, making them a long-term commitment.

And, since their hind legs are so powerful (allowing them to jump off quickly and leap around), when living with these wonderful animals, we need to be aware of their presence. They may be across the room one minute and in front of us the next (wanting to get close to us). And, because they do not make noises, like other animals, we need to be aware of their wonderful presence. And, because they do not make irritating noises, like other animals (or people) it is always peaceful to be in their company.

It is imperative to know, their teeth never stop growing, so they require something to chew on regularly to help curb the growing process. Another viewpoint is that rabbits will chew out of boredom. Whichever version is correct, it is important to provide appropriate objects for them to munch on and to monitor their activities.

Rabbits will gravitate to wood, electrical and phone wires so it is important to make sure, for everyone’s safety, that your rabbit friends are given toys to keep them occupied and to keep them away from wires and any wood furniture that they could possibly damage. With this simple step, everyone will remain happy. Rabbits are wonderful, affectionate, and active family members who need to be regularly stimulated so that neither they, nor their other family members, become frustrated with each other.

Although they are cute and make wonderful pets, please be patient, loving and educate yourself and your family before bringing these wonderful animals into your home.
