Notes

I'm not find much help with this situation. This is copy and pasted from a text I sent to another organization. SPCA wasn't much help. Animal control isn’t interested. I filled out the contact me form at Rabbitats and the rescue organization they work with but being this is an early Sunday morning I haven't heard back. Im sending this again because I don’t see it in your list. also left a text message and picture with VRRA. The situation... Hi, reporting an urgent, recently dumped domestic pet rabbit at Squint Lake Park in Burnaby, at the Burnaby mountain golf course. It is very sweet and tame, actively approaching humans for safety. It is dark greyish brown. It allowed me to sit 2 feet away from it while it ate grass weeds, he hid under a baseball storage container when a lady with a dog approached. When they left his ears went up, eyes lighting up and he came hopping towards me. I feel like he is expecting his human to come back and get him based on his behaviour but he was clearly abandoned. I wish I could give him a warm safe home:( He is calm and sweet but he is scared and stays around the picnic table and portable park storage unit. However, when another kind Samaritan who brought back a blanket/carrying case and tried to catch him, he got scared because of children rushing in and more people with their dogs approaching. He was chased into the blackberry thicket near the baseball diamond picnic area (at the end of the pickleball court parking lot ). I pray he isn’t hurt. There are a lot of predators in and around that park. There are also violent people who start fires at night as well shootings and stabbings. Not a place for a sweet being who is trusting and doesn’t have the means to protect itself. I go almost daily for walks so this guy could have been abandoned as soon as yesterday when I saw him. I have health issues that prevent me from boarding an animal. Over a year ago I had to rehome my sweet Ellie (cat then of 7 years) with my best friend (I visit her regularly). I don't have a car, so I cannot contain or transport the bunny myself. I have logged it with Rabbitats online but wanted to alert your local volunteers. Please contact me if need be. Thank you." Update I went to the park again yesterday evening and baseballers said he was hopping around there an hour before I got there. He hides under the shipment storage container this seems to be his safe/sleeping spot. I left him greens and fresh water and saw fresh rabbit excrement. I waited an hour because I wanted to make sure he wasn't hurt but didn't see him. He must have been sleeping or hiding. I removed a thick long stick someone used to poke in the entry ways he goes through to hide and rest. I’m concerned they might have been trying to hurt him if they are the drinking, drugging violent crowds that frequent there at night. I don't know if there is anything you can do or anyone else you might know of who could help? My phone number is 236-998-6133. This was yesterday Saturday June 6th around 5pm and the update is for Sunday June 7th around 7pm. Best regards, Carolyn
